Mass Timber Detail Components
Cross-laminated timber, or CLT, is the rising star of the mass timber structural family, yet the BIM user is often faced with a lack of detailing and dimensional coordination information for a young industry segment that is not yet fully standardized across the different producers. We started this catalog library with mass timber floor assemblies (horizontal system families used like a slab-on-beam structure), and we offered user-defined criteria to filter the options down with sustainable sourcing, certifications, and fire resistance. More options and manufacturers are being added continuously to this growing segment so check back in often and contact us with questions.
What's in these files?
Container file
The container file for mass timber floor assemblies contains fourteen CLT slab thicknesses and five GLT (Glue Laminated Timber slabs laminated for simple spans in one direction only). We will be updating this container with mechanically laminated options like NLT and DLT (Nail, and Dowel Laminated Timber, respectively), and with more manufacturer options as they come online.
Section Detailing for Mass Timber Slabs
Understanding the specific and directional “lay-ups” of the various 3 ply, 5 ply, and other combinations, are made easier with 2d detail views that correspond to the wide variety of options that are available across individual manufacturers in this segment. Connection detailing and fastening is not covered in these low LOD content packs and should come from a collaboration between the project engineer and the manufacturer’s technical department. Acoustic assemblies are being worked on, ask for advance copy and updates (here).
Specifications for mass timber materials and assemblies.
A full three part specification and outline specs are both in final review for presentation here in .doc format and also formatted for use in data-driven spec engines for firms who use RIB (formerly BSD SpecLink). Please let us know if you would like advance copy or assistance by requesting a specification assist.
