Early-phase design coordination of light wood-framed floor assemblies is made easier with the first in a series of families designed for this growing segment of construction. Because the architect does not draw individual framing members, but wants to know the dimensionality and properties of the assembly as a whole, a specific group of options has been the first project in this ongoing nonprofit BIM initiative. Open Web Floor Systems will be expanded soon to include other engineered options for light wood building core and shell structures. Try our beta version of a roof truss guidance tool in the container file below, and ask for more design assist.
Cross-laminated timber, or CLT, is the rising star of the mass timber structural family, yet the BIM user is often faced with a lack of detailing and dimensional coordination information for a young industry segment that is not yet fully standardized across the different producers. We started this catalog library with mass timber floor assemblies (horizontal system families used like a slab-on-beam structure), and we offered user-defined criteria to filter the options down with sustainable sourcing, certifications, and fire resistance. More options and manufacturers are being added continuously to this growing segment so check back in often and contact us with questions.
Timber curtain walls are a sophisticated option, both in BIM and in your actual building. The mix of materials, and the fact that the timber mullions act as a structural element in the building, make it a challenge to specify this system for the first time. Our customized Revit content gives a handsome visual while educating about the system options. The associated system manufacturers will be able to give a better design assist and budgetary pricing when their parameters and dimensions have been given a “head start” with this custom content pack that includes families, details, and specifications.
